Abstract

This dataset consists of responses by candidates in the 2015 Finnish parliamentary elections to a voting advice application maintained by the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat. The candidates were presented with thirty attitudinal statements concerning politics which they evaluated on a five-point likert scale.

The statements concerned, for instance, the role of taxation and social security benefits on balancing public economy, use of nuclear energy and fossil fuels, municipal mergers, applying for NATO membership, Defence Forces funding, and the relationship between environmental protection and economic growth.

Background variables included the candidate's age, gender, education, party, and electoral district.
