Abstract

The data were collected by interviewing the employees and cooperation partners of the Jyväskylä Street Mission as well as people with substance abuse problems for whom the Street Mission had provided housing or employment. The aim of the study was to chart the experiences of both the helpers and the helped, and to canvass themes such as future expectations, social relationships, life history, Christianity, intoxicants, participating in various activities, and peer support.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

The interviewees were recruited from among the employees and cooperation partners the Jyväskylä Street Mission as well as people residing in housing provided by the Mission. Written invitations to residents to participate in the study were delivered to the housing units.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The researcher transcribed the recorded interviews. THe data were anonymised during archiving. Place names were coarsened and other names were replaced by pseudonyms. All files were converted into RTF format.
