Abstract

In this study, grown-up daughters told about the death of their aged parent. The archived data consist of 17 interviews conducted between 2002 and 2003. The interviewed women were aged between 35 and 70 years. They were asked how their parents had died, how they had reacted to the death of their parent, and how they had learned to live without the deceased. Further questions charted whether the deceased had suffered from any illnesses and how the practical matters were dealt with after the death.

The dataset is only available in Finnish.

Women aged approximately 35-70 who had lost at least on parent in the previous few years were selected to be interviewed. Six of the participants were reached using snowball sampling while the rest, 11 participants, responded to the researcher's advertisement on the Kirkko ja Kaupunki paper.

Completeness of Data and Restrictions

The researcher trancribed the interviews into a digital format with varying levels of accuracy. The interviews were anonymised during archiving; names of the interviewees and other persons were changed and identifying information (e.g. places of residence, workplaces, names of hospitals and other facilities) was coarsened or removed.
