Abstract

This combined data includes surveys from 1992 to 2005. Survey themes include voting behaviour, opinions on the government and the parties, and attitudes towards national political issues. In addition, the respondents' economic expectations and political participation have often been studied, as well as their opinions on local politics, and the significance of the party leader to a party.

Background variables have often included the social class of the respondent and the household head, economic activity of the household head, the respondent's education, age, mother tongue, gender, party membership, political views, trade union membership, and the household's annual income. There are also regional variables.

Even though the variables are not always fully comparable from one survey to another, all kinds of comparisons over time are possible. The questions that have remained almost unchanged over the years cover the respondents' political view, their image of the parties, and how the government had succeeded in various tasks. The combined data also include plenty of questions that have not been asked every year, including the questions on the European Parliament elections and the choice of the members of the European Parliament, questions on election advertising and voting intentions, as well as questions on the characteristics of the members of the parliament, the EU constitution, and the focus of political attention.

Sampling Procedure

Probability: Multistage

The data have been collected with the help of GallupChannel telepanel (PCs and Internet terminals in respondent households). Multi-stage stratified sample was used.

The data have been collected in 1992 - 2005. The annual collection dates have been 27.3.1992 - 31.3.1992, 28.8.1992 - 1.9.1992, year 1993, 28.10.1994 - 1.11.1994, 3.2.1995 - 7.2.1995, 30.8.1996 - 3.9.1996, 5.3.1997 - 9.3.1997, 3.10.1997 - 7.10.1997, 13.2.1998 - 17.2.1998, 11.9.1998 - 15.9.1998, 27.1.1999 - 31.1.1999, September 2000, September 2001 - October 2001, 19.4.2002 - 23.4.2002, 10.4.2002 - 8.10.2002, 6.10.2003 - 12.10.2003, 16.2.2004 - 22.2.2004, and 28.3.2005 - 3.4.2005.
