Abstract

The respondents in this survey consisted of residents of the city of Tampere (Finland). Questions covered their access to a mobile phone, PC, e-mail, and the Internet. Those who had access to the Internet were asked about the location, frequency, duration and purpose of their Internet use. The respondents' familiarity with and use of the city of Tampere website was surveyed. Views were probed on what kind of information, entertainment, services, participation opportunities, etc. they would like to access through the city's web pages. The respondents were also asked what kind of online participation and e-participation methods they considered worth developing (Internet surveys or surveys via mobile phones, possibility to comment on policy proposals on the Internet, etc.).

Background variables included the respondent's gender, age group, basic education, economic activity, household composition, number of persons in the household, and phone type (fixed line, mobile phone).
