Sisällön kuvaus

The survey charted the employment situation and placement in job of persons who had graduated from the University of Tampere in 2004. Current employment situation, employment history before and after graduation, and experiences of unemployment after graduation were investigated. The respondents were asked about the nature of their current job and whether the job was commensurate with their qualifications. One topic covered job searching methods used. The respondents were also asked which factors were most important in obtaining their current job and which factors may have hindered or prevented them from finding a job. Views were probed on whether they had gained useful skills and abilities (e.g. information seeking skills, analytical thought, language skills, problem solution) from their studies.

Background variables included the respondent's gender, region, and information on the degree (degree programme, faculty, field of study, time of starting studies).

Questionnaires were mailed to all persons who had completed their M.A. degree or B.A. degree in Education (nursery school teachers) at the University of Tampere in 2004. The respondents received the questionnaire roughly one year after their graduation. Four respondents had obtained two separate university degrees in 2004.

Open-ended variables were removed from the data, with the exception of variables Q3c_1 and Q3c_2 regarding satisfaction with the degree programme. The open-ended responses were anonymised and the anonymised parts marked with [square brackets]. Background variables obtained from the student register were re-categorised when necessary to minimise the risk of identification. Because only two males graduated in health sciences in 2004, and only one responded to the survey, this respondent was coded as female to prevent identification.
