Abstract

In the survey, Finnish citizens' views on, for instance, military alliances and the funding of the Finnish Defence Forces were monitored. In addition, the respondents were asked to state their personal opinions on armed civil defence, military funding, and whether Finland should abolish the obligatory military service (conscription).

Background variables included the respondent's sex, age group, social group, education, and the place and area of residence.

The number of respondents required by the sample was divided according to the old telephone area codes. From each code area, a set of telephone numbers was selected in relation to area's population. Number 1 was first subtracted from and then added to each sampled number. A call was made to actual numbers and the mathematical ones. Persons whose gender and age matched quota requirements were interviewed.
