Abstract

In the survey, Finnish citizens' views on, for instance, military alliances and the administration of foreign policy were probed. The respondents were asked to state their personal opinions on armed civil defence, antipersonnel land mines, stand-by forces, and voluntary civil defence. Opinions on the amount and distribution of Defence Forces' funds, on the meaning of neutrality, and on the impact of EU membership on Finland's development were also surveyed. In addition, the respondents were asked to assess phenomena influencing the security of Finland and Finnish citizens.

Background variables included the respondent's sex, age group, social group, education, as well as the place and area of residence.
